Potomac is a Moonglow x Anjou cross introduced by the Ohio State University in 1993. With it's excellent fireblight resistance and exceptional fruit quality, it is a top pick for both home orchards and commercial growers. Organic producers, in particular, favour this vigorous and precocious ( starts bearing at a young age) variety. The fruit is similar to Anjou in both form and flavour, with buttery, fine-textured flesh, and a pleasant, well-balanced taste profile. Potomac is a first-rate fresh eating pear that can keep for several months. It also works very well for canning.
NEEDS A POLLENIZER | ZONE 4/5 | HARVEST : MID-LATE SEPT.
All European (regular) and Asian pears will pollinate each other providing their bloom times overlap. Generally you can go by the expected harvest time, meaning only the very early and the very late might not be compatible with each other. However, since Asian pears, on average, bloom earlier than Europeans, you might pair an early European with a mid or late Asian.
