NEW
We are now offering Harrow Delight as an early season selection instead of Sunrise, simply because Sunrise seems to take forever to start bearing, while Harrow Delight is more precocious than most pears. It will often begin fruiting by the second or third year after planting. Harrow Delight is also highly resistant to fireblight and pear scab. This is a good choice to start the pear season at a farmstand. Fruit size, appearance and texture are almost identical to Bartlett, and while flavour is similar, it has its own distinctive, sweet and pleasant taste. Pick them before they are fully ripe to extend their short shelf life.
NEEDS A POLLENIZER / ZONE 4/5 / HARVEST: MID AUG.
All European (regular) and Asian pears will pollinate each other providing their bloom times overlap. Generally you can go by the expected harvest time, meaning only the very early and the very late might not be compatible with each other. However, since Asian pears, on average, bloom earlier than Europeans, you might pair an early European with a mid or late Asian.
