Here's an attractive and colourful choice in nitrogen fixer with the unique ability to transfer nitrogen from the air into the soil where it can be absorbed by the tree's roots. Erect spikes of mixed colours in purple/blue/pink/red/yellow, and bi-colour flowers rise above bright green palmate foliage from late spring to early summer. Lupines have a clumping growth habit, becoming 45-60cm (18-24") tall and have a 30-40cm (12-16") spread.
