Shiro is well-known and widely recommended. It has been around since 1899 when Luther Burbank introduced it and is a consistently prolific producer. The sunny yellow fruit is larger than Early Gold, and ripens 10-14 days later. Bend forward to bite into a Shiro, as the tender, melting, translucent flesh is unbelievably juicy. Pick it slightly green if you want to store it longer. The tree has a very spreading growth habit. Although it usually grows no taller than 3-3.5m (10-12') it can become almost twice as wide.
