GREEN JADE™ EUROPEAN PEAR

Original price was: $59.95.Current price is: $42.95.

Si is Green Jade™ actually an Asian pear disguised as a European? Well, all the pears in the pedigree of this unusual newer cultivar from Purdue University are, in fact, European. It is sometimes marketed as 'Crisp n Sweet', but either way, everyone selling it describes the fruit somewhat so-'Green Jade™ combines the juicy, rich flavour of a traditional European pear with the crisp snappy texture of an Asian pear.' We agree. What this really means is you don't need to find the perfect moment to pick the fruit. Due to the low acidity of skin and flesh, Green Jade™ is a real pleasure to eat before it is fully ripe. Like Asian pears, if you thin the crop early you'll get impressive fruit size. The tree is a reliable workhorse with solid fireblight resistance.

Growing Tips

Pear Pollination Growing Tip

All European (regular) and Asian pears will pollinate each other providing their bloom times overlap. Generally you can go by the expected harvest time, meaning only the very early and the very late might not be compatible with each other. However, since Asian pears, on average, bloom earlier than Europeans, you might pair an early European with a mid or late Asian.

Product Overview
Pears (Pyrus communis) Pears are a great compliment to any home orchard. They usually require less maintenance than other fruit as far as pruning and spraying and tolerate heavy clay soils. Most pear orchards are gone, so Canada must import millions of pounds every years just to meet the present consumer demand. We chose this interesting collection of pears for their wonderful quality of fruit and because they are among the easiest for orchardists to grow organically. 1-2m (3-6') bareroot trees
