Bancroft was developed at the Ottawa research station during the 1920's and is still one of the best really hardy storage apples. The flesh of this mid-sized, rosy-red apple is more fine-grained than that of its well-known McIntosh parent. The lesser-known Forest parent imparted the ability to maintain both flavour and texture exceptionally long. In fact, Bancroft is at its best after Christmas and keeps easily till spring. A tough, dependable choice that starts to bear at a young age.
