Sometimes a tree is disfigured, slightly damaged, or simply a misfit. At other times we have mix-ups, missing tags, or just too many of a particular variety. These make ideal candidates for wildlife areas or food forests. They will attract deer and other wildlife, providing nourishment for them and for the one who planted the trees.

Most packs are pre-bundled while sorting trees during the winter. We cannot guarantee names of any specific variety. If you want a certain variety, you must order it from the main section.

Tree size (dwarf, semi-dwarf or standard) is random. If planting for deer or wildlife, we suggest planting dwarf trees deeper, with the graft covered, so it becomes a full size tree.

    Our pack (purchased in 2025) actually contained 16 plants instead of 12. Nine had tags, the rest are a mystery. While we were dubious about a couple of them, they all woke up, survived their first winter and are putting on good growth this year. We’ve planted them along our wildlife trails on our 25 acre property and we are looking forward to grazing along with deer as we walk those trails in the future! A very affordable way to make this happen.

What is Orchard Grade?

An 'orchard grade' is a tree that may be somewhat shorter, slightly crooked, or a bit scratched, or for some other reason is not a perfect front lawn specimen. These trees will work just as well in an orchard as a first or number one would, since they still produce the very same fruit.

What is a 2 year old tree?

A '2 year old tree' is one that has grown an extra season in our nursery field.

All our trees are planted in the field in the spring as rootstock. They are grafted in August of the 1st year. Most of our trees are dug out in November of the 2nd year. Some trees are in the ground for another season. We dig these in November of the 3rd year. These are considered to be '2 year old trees'.

A '2 year old tree' has bigger roots, a thicker trunk, and more branching (They might start fruiting a year earlier).
