This large, attractive dark red apple remains one of our favourites. Crisp, juicy flesh is slightly spicy with the light cream colour showing red staining just under the skin. Fruit ripens over a period of several weeks and does not drop at maturity making it ideal for the backyard grower. William's Pride ranks high for all around disease resistance.

    For both types of scion wood, I used a tool to cut the branches for the grafts and it did not go well. But I made my own cleft grafts on a few of them, both William's Pride and Yellow Transparent. All of those I cut by hand worked out beautifully. The grafts took and they are growing well. The scion wood was perfect, once you rule out my own incompetence with the tool. 😞 I will try some more next year.

What is Orchard Grade?

An 'orchard grade' is a tree that may be somewhat shorter, slightly crooked, or a bit scratched, or for some other reason is not a perfect front lawn specimen. These trees will work just as well in an orchard as a first or number one would, since they still produce the very same fruit.
