(Crataegus arnoldiana)
Arnold is a large shrub or small tree which is better suited for conservation or windbreak settings, than a playground or front lawn. It is definitely tidy and attractive enough, but don't tangle with it. Arnold is equipped with serious thorns! This, of course, also lends itself well to create a formidable fence or barrier. Vigorous, dense growth provides tight screening while the form, foliage, and flowering are all visually appealing. In late spring the tree is well-covered with dainty white blossoms making it a pollinator and bee destination. Many songbirds use this tree for nesting as well as food. The edible berries are also good for human consumption, ripening in late August. Mature size is approximately 5m (15-18') high and wide.
