For the past three years our Cornelian cherry grower has assured us they will be available for the following year. Somehow, 'next year' still has not come, so we've come up with a different option.
Golden Glory is often sold as an ornamental shrub and for good reason. It is an 'RHS Award of Garden Merit' winner, starting off early in the spring with a profusion of bright yellow, forsythia-like blossoms. The glossy, dark green foliage turns reddish-purple for the fall. Of course, the bright crimson fruit also adds ornamental appeal. These 16mm (5/8") long drupes taste much like sour cherries with a cranberry twist.
Cornelian cherry trees or shrubs will tolerate severe pruning, so Golden Glory is also a good candidate to create a pest-free, disease resistant, fruiting hedge. With no pruning they can reach 4-6m (13-20') in height and width.
