Unsexed seedlings are best used as a hedge where fruit is less important. If planting 10 or more you are almost certain to have both male and female plants. Makes an attractive yet virtually impenetrable hedge. Sea buckthorn is also useful for preventing erosion on steep slopes or for soil remediation. In some areas of Quebec they have been planted along highways to absorb any heavy metals and pollutants before they get into waterways.
