Some sources insist this unique variety is the sweetest orange to be found. It was introduced from Japan in the 1980s and is similar in many respects to the regular Washington navel orange. Fukumoto, however, is less vigorous, making it especially well suited to container growing. The extra-sweet and juicy, reddish-orange fruits also ripen about a month earlier. Like all navel oranges, they are seedless and easy-to-peel. (Citrus sinensis)
