This well-known variety was named by T.J. Bears, who found it growing in his California nursery around 1895 (which still doesn't explain the double S!). It is the best lime for container growing and has large, nearly seedless, and very refreshing fruit almost the size of lemons. Limes are usually harvested before they are ripe, because consumers expect them to be green in colour. They will actually turn yellow when totally ripe. Bearss Lime can produce some fruit year round, but mostly in late winter and early spring. (Citrus latfolia)
